TIME TO BE STILL!
If you are a college student like me, you will quickly be so very thankful for when our crazy semester comes to an end. We pack our bags, say our goodbyes to the people we just spent our entire semester with, and go home for winter break.
For many colleges, winter break is insanely long. I’m talking for a MONTH. How nice, right?! You would think that we would enjoy this entire month off to just breathe.
And while having your mom do your laundry, going back to your favorite coffee shop and sleeping in your bed is the greatest thing on earth, for most of us, there is a part of us that feels like we need to be doing something. Whether that be school work, or just being busy, we feel that there is no purpose for us back at home.
Our communities move on, our high school’s grow and change, and when you come back, you feel as if you stayed the same and everyone else around you is changing, growing, moving on, and letting go. Whether it be your old youth group, your high school friendships you promised would never change, or even your family. You feel like you're in total limbo when you come home. And that feeling makes you feel sad beyond belief. You just want to be a part of what you used to be a part of.
Let me tell you sister, this is a universal feeling for every college student that comes home for winter break. But one thing I have realized while also going through this exact same thing, is although the ones around you are growing and changing, so are you. You may not feel like you are, but let me tell you, you too are also growing and letting go. And although sometimes there will be moments where all you want is your old life back, you will soon realize there is a reason God placed you in the exact season you are right now. And sometimes those seasons require you to draw closer and closer to the Lord, in order to hear the words He speaks to you.
So, this winter break, encourage you to slow down. Here is a picture of me and a friend's new puppy. I am truly obsessed with him. His name is Jasper. This picture not only is just so very cute, but symbolizes the feeling of slowing down.
In this month you have off from all the college madness, I encourage you to slow down. Sleep in, spend time with your family, visit all your old stomping grounds and be grateful. Be grateful for where God placed you. I encourage you to continue to stoke those relationships you left in your hometown - have coffee with your youth pastor, have a sleepover with your high school besties, snuggle your pets, and SLOW DOWN. Give yourself space to mentally relax after this crazy but fulfilling semester you just completed! You did that, girl!
I’m with you sister,
Samantha
